Discharge after trial
After a retirement of three hours a jury in the District Court yesterday found Barry John Wiki, aged 28, not guilty of a charge of attempting to escape from a cell at Addington Prison on or about October 20 last year. The trial began on Tuesday 7 and was completed early yesterday afternoon. Judge Fraser discharged
the defendant on this charge after the jury's verdict was given. A prison inmate called by the Crown gave evidence that he shared a cell with the defendant. He said he (witness) had planned to escape and had obtained hacksaw blades from another prisoner and had attempted to saw through the bars. The defendant had not been implicated.
