Abortion figures
Sir.—ln reply to Pat Syme, (March 10), it is a subject of national shame that since 1978 when 1980 abortions were reported there has been an increase in five years of 345 per cent. Children are our future and our most valuable asset. Each one of the 6831 abortions reported for 1981 represents human tragedy for the mother and death for her child. Does it please God that we are destroying our own children? God will not be mocked and we are vain to expect God to continue to bless our country with peace and prosperity. The tragic increase coupled with the fact that few women are seeking abortions in Australia, confirms the belief that many unborn children are being killed for purely social reasons. It is overdue for Parliament to accept its responsibility to protect the life of all New Zealanders by urgently legislating protection for our future citizens. — Yours, etc., K. ORR. March 16, 1982.
