Competition for Elvis fans

Elvis Presley has been dead for more than four years but the legend lives on and new films about the "King of Rock" keep appearing.

A couple of years ago, Kurt Russell appeared in a slightly idealised version of the singer’s life; while, this time, we are presented with a hopefully more authentic look behind the scenes at Presley’s private life in “This is Elvis,” which starts at the Avon tomorrow. “This is Elvis" should be of particular interest to fans and those who still know little about Presley as it combines rare, never-before-seen footage, privatelyowned tapes from the early years of television, remarkable out-takes from Presley's movies and accurate recreations of pivotal moments in his life.

At Saturday afternoon’s screening, Christchurch’s own Elvis impersonator, Ritchie Venus, will also appear on stage to present a selection of the King’s hits. In connection with the first showing of this film in Christchurch, “The Press" and Avon Theatre are holding an Elvis Presley competition, with an R.C.A. record of the music of the film,

one book entitled “Elvis, The Man and His Music,” and 10 double pass tickets to the cinema as prizes. The question is simple enough but may still require a bit of research: Give as many as possible of the New Zealand titles of the 33 films Elvis made during his life in the order they were shown here.

The competition will close at mid-day on Tuesday, and the names of the \vinners will be published in “The Press" next Thursday. The entries will be judged for correctness, neatness and any additional information which the entrants may care to submit. Entries should be addressed to: Elvis Presley Competition, At the Cinema, "The Press,” P.O. Box 1005, Christchurch.
