Spell likely after strait crossing
PA Palmerston North The South Island three-year-old The Imposter, injured on the Cook Strait ferry Aramoana on Sunday, probably won’t race again until next season the partowner, Mr Ray Dennis said yesterday. Three horses, including the star galloper. Powley, died on the rough strait crossing. Mr Dennis said that when he got The Imposter off the Aramoana and tried to load him on a float, the horse simply fell over because he was so weak.
• Mr Dennis added that the horse’s life had been saved by a girl who had been attending another sick horse. “The Imposter went down between two horses which were standing on him. He was so dehydrated he was trying to lick sweat and blood off the float floor. The girl managed to get him up and give him half a bucket of water. That’s what saved him." Mr Dennis said that physically the horse had es-. caped with bruising and a few cuts but probably would be spelled until next season.
