Summer Haze favoured for Opunake treble

Despite her recent lapses Summer Haze remains the class horse engaged in the Ernie Poole Memorial Stakes at Hawera today and is entitled to considerable respect in the sprnnd W nf thp Onimakp Racinff Club’s T.A.B. treble.

Summer Haze missed in feature races at Te Rapa and Trentham recently but her previous form included a superb winning run in the Manawatu Challenge Stakes and placings in a sprint and the George Adams Handicap at Trentham. Her Stratford trainer, R. Bothwell, has had a few minor problems with Summer Haze, which at her best would easily beat this field. Alley Oop confirmed how unlucky she was in the Lion Brown Sprint by winning the Galilee Stakes at Waipa last Saturday. She is worth serious consideration on her home circuit. Duty Point is not generally recognised as a weight-for-age performer but at this stage of'his current* campaign he could run a bold mile. Anderil found his 57kg at New Plymouth a bit tough but he -fought back 'gamely. This scale of weights suits him much better and it will be surprising if he is not in the final line-up. Penycae has the speed to be prominent for a long way while Papabois and Wren’s Pride have been impressive winners recently in middledistance handicaps. If there is to be an upset it could come from Idaho’s Gift, Diplomante or Pride of Rosewood. The T.A.B. double will be run on the Opunake Cup and the St Patrick’s Handicap. If there was an unlucky runner in last week’s Caltex Gold Cup at New Plymouth it was Double You Em. He gets every chance, against a fairly ordinary field, to gain compensation in the first leg. Last Lu was slow away at New Plymouth and with the pace solid he never recovered. The extra distance should give him time to settle and run on in his best style. Decibel will appreciate this class and with the anticipated weight of Northern Money she could be at fairly short odds. Galaxy Lass, Smart Devil. Marcus and Paris Mist could be the pick of an even remainder. All Sevens. Commissionaire and Pacific Pride are but three of the prospects for the second leg, the St Patrick's Handicap. All Sevens, in his first outing for a while, showed plenty of dash at New Plymouth and despite his draw he must be considered. Commissionaire is a highly rated galloper likely to be fresh enough to test most in this field. ' Pacific Pride rattled home at New Plymouth and after a good gallop on Monday looks in the right heart to race kindly again. Emphatic missed the start at New Plymouth after winning in dashing style at Stratford. Like the New Plymouth winner, Lens, he must be respected again. Tailand Prince, Sharebroker.
