Charge over shooting
PA Hastings A man was charged in the District Court at Hastings yesterday with the shooting of an eight-year-old boy at Patangata on Saturday evening. Libya Walker, aged 23, a shepherd, of Waipukurau, was charged with wounding Leopard E. Taite with reckless disregard for the safety of others. He was remanded without plea in custody to appear today on the charge. Walker was also charged
along with Sonny Richard Thompson, aged 23, a shearer and Rangi Vincent Thompson, aged 25, a shearer, both of Waipukurau, and Toku Patu, aged 27. a shearer and Sonny Charlton Kaori Smith, aged 17, unemployed, both of Waipawa, of being a member of an unlawful assembly. They were all remanded without plea and in custody to appear again today. Sergeant M. H. Jones said the police strenuously opposed bail for each of the men.
