Addington market Prime cattle prices fall by $10

Prime cattle prices dropped at the Addington market yesterday in the wake of a reduction in the export beef schedule prices payable to farmers. Steers and heifers in an unfinished condition were hard to sell and dropped in price by about $2O compared with last week. Top quality stock was not penalised as much, selling about $lO cheaper tha last. week. The lower export prices were announced on Monday by South Island beef exporting companies. Prices for the best prime hoggets eased to about $27 compared with a top price of more than $29 last week. Prime lamb values remained about the same and old ewes had a stronger sale. Prime lambs Many of, the prime lambs yarded were in poor condition as a result of the drought, but values overall were on a par with last week.
