Riccarton traffic to be surveyed
, Christchurch . Boys’ High School pupils will take to the streets with watches and clipboards today to help with a survey of traffic round the Riccarton shopping area. ' The survey which will finish tomorrow, is being run by Traffic Design Group, Ltd, for the Riccarton Borough Council. About 30 pupils will be involved during each of three sessions of the survey. The council hopes that.
results of the survey will help it plan improvements for the local street network. Of central concern to the council is congestion on Riccarton Road, particularly at peak hours. Some 20,000 vehicles are thought to use the street each day. Queues often form at key intersections during peak hours, because, the street’s capacity is for only about 2000 vehicles an hour.
