Entries still being accepted
Entries are still being accepted for the Big M 10,000 Race to be held in Christchurch on Saturday. Entry forms are available from Front Runner, in Cashfields Mall, and from Conley and Blyth. Armagh Street, as well as Radio Avon, Kilmore Street.
Runners who have already entered can pick up their insignia from Front Runner (Surnames A to L) and Conley and Blyth (Surnames M to .Z) during this week.
The entry costs are $3,50 for registered runners, $5.50 for “day”-registered (non registered) runners. ■ For ■ both categories $2 goes towards the costs of organising and running the event, $1 towards the club running the fixture (the University of Canterbury Cross Country Club), and 50 cents towards the city council for an appropriate project. The extra $2 for day-regis-tered runners goes to the local Canterbury Amateur Athletic Association for "temporary race day regis-
tration." This is a requirement made by the' New Zealand Amateur Athletic Association.
While the entry fee may appear high for those accustomed to paying 50 cents or $1 for a local club race or fun run, the costs involved in organising any major running series are much higher.
They are in line, in fact, with numerous other short and middle distance road events being organised in New Zealand at present. The format gives registered runners the opportunity to really test themselves over 10km and gives other runners the chance to run T with some of the best ath-
letes in the country and set a personal best time, All finishers receive free Big M and a certificate showing their finishing time. Late entries will be accepted up to 15 minutes before the race starts at Hagley Park.
