General forecast: In the north of the North Island variable, skies and scattered showers are expected while in the southwest of the South Island rain accompanying a cold front should spread north into Westland. Elsewhere mainly fine, with variable high cloud and moderate to strong north-westerlies. District forecasts: Canterbury: Moderate northeasterlies about the coasts with cloudy areas and a few drizzle patches, light winds inland at first but north-westerlies becoming strong in exposed places during the day and spreading to the coast at times south of Christchurch. Mainly fine with increasing high cloud; warm. Nelson: Moderate northerlies predominating, ' a few cloudy areas night and

morning, otherwise fine.

warm. Marlborough; North-wester-lies becoming strong about the Sounds and freshening in other exposed parts during the day; generally fine, warm inland. Buller: Moderate variable winds, a few drizzle patches night and morning otherwise mainly fine. Westland: Cloudy night and morning with a few drizzle patches likely, fine at first but becoming cloudy during the day with rain spreading as far north as Harihari by evening; northwesterlies gradually freshening from the south, mild. Outlook: Showers in the west and south of the South Island, and few scattered showers in the northern North Island districts, otherwise fine.
