Bijou Lad put down

Bijou Lad, the winner of five races in the colours of Mr Justin McCarthy, of Ladbrooks, had to be put down at Riccarton last Thursday after fracturing a leg in unusual circumstances. That day Bijou Lad had been operated on for a hairline fracture of a cannon bone. The bone had been pinned in the two-hour operation and from all appearances Bijou Lad had made a normal recovery. “But he was obviously still groggy from the anaesthetic when he tried to stand up, tottered, and was trying to regain his balance when the leg fractured just above the top of the newly fitted bandage,” said his . Riccarton trainer, Maurice Thornley, on Saturday.
