Westport horses could repulse Canty raiders

By

G. K. YULE

Westport horses could repulse a fairly strong Canterbury challenge in- the Jim' Beam Mobile Stakes, first leg of the T.A.B. double on the opening night of the Greymouth Trottirig Club’s meeting tomorrow. Governor’s Lady, Faberge and Patsy Marie are three horses trained in the Westport area. All have sound form backgrounds and which ever one of them receives the best run should be the winner.

Governor’s Lady has had three wins and three placings from her last six starts. She was a winner at Hutt Park on Tuesday and will only need reasonable luck to overcome an awkward barrier draw.

Faberge, has drawn better. A double winner at the Nelson summer meeting, she attracted attention to* her immediate prospects when she finished fourth behind Ranui Del over 3200 m at Methven recently. Yankee Hall, to be driven by Murray Butt, could be the pick of the Canterbury challengers, although he might be better suited by the longer distance in the Greymouth Cup on Monday than he will be by 2200 m from the second line. Yankee Hall beat all but the talented three-year-old, Lopez Song, at Addington on Wednesday and he will only have to race up to that effort to be in the thick of this finish. Patsy Marie will strengthen the prospects of success for Buller trainers. She is a noted speedster and will be suited by the sprint distance. Lord Thorpe, from Nelson, The Trump and Espiritu are others capable of adding interest to the finish. Buono Volato, Ginger Creek and Siesta make strong appeal in the second leg, the Meyfor Brandy Stakes, to be run over 2600 m. face 1 4.5 FIRST CANTERBURY PARK .
