PA Wellington New Zealand is firmly resisting an Australian bid to have this country agree to a date on ending import licensing on goods from across the Tasman, said the Minister of Trade and Industry (Mr Templeton). Mr Templeton made the comment while elaborating on reports that he had said import licensing would be phased out in 15 years under Closer Economic Relations with Australia. • The Minister said he had in fact stressed the gradual nature of the proposed formula for expanding Australia’s access to the New Zealand market. “This would operate as a safeguard for New Zealand manufacturers." he said. Mr Templeton noted that in the case of many products it would be some 15 years before the access formula resulted in substantial Australian access to the New Zealand market.
