Sanders Cup to Southland

PA Dunedin Southland won the interprovincial Sanders Cup for Javelin yachts held at Port Chalmers yesterday. It. is the first time since the contest began in 1921 that Southland, skippered by Paul Heads with crew Wayne Shaw, has won the title, and Heads was delighted. “This was my fifth attempt at

the title and after our win in the sixth race on Wednesday afternoon, we knew we had a chance to take the title, having only to beat Auckland in the last race," Heads, aged 29, a parts manager from Invercargill, said. In the race Southland was second behind Wellington and two places ahead of Auckland. Canterbury finished third overall.
