Complaint about car park
Sir,—l wish to express my dissatisfaction regarding the arrangement which now exists at the Lichfield car park. It appears evident that all small cars are directed to park outside in the newly acquired land adjoining the parking building. The main reason that I use the parking building is that my car is kept undercover and remains cool to get into on the hot days and is protected from the elements on the cold wet days, assisting loading parcels, etc., into the car on those days. I feel that in all fairness the cars parking outside should do so at a reduced rate. — Yours, etc.,
C. D. PILBROW. February 17, 1982.
[The Christchurch City Council’s General Manager and Town Clerk, Mr J. H. Gray, replies: “Future use of the open area adjacent to the Lichfield Street car park will be bn a preference basis. However, there will be occasions when these are the only spaces available, as the car park fills, as is also the case with the open spaces on the top decks , of the building. It is not practicable to operate a system whereby different rates are set for covered and uncovered parking. This is very much- a matter of preference and avail-
ability. The open car park referred to has proved popular with some elderly people who are apprehensive about negotiating the higher levels within the car park.”]
