Labour call rejected
PA . Wellington The Minister of Trade and Industry (Mr Templeton) has turned down a request from the Labour Party’s spokesman on Customs, Mr M. K. Moore, to establish a select committee to discuss proposed closer economic relations with Australia. Mr Moore said yesterday, “I believe the issue is of such moment that a special select committee could hear the representations from the
various interest groups involved and that legislation would not only involve all the Minister of Parliament, but would show to the public the importance of the issue.” Mr Templeton said that there would be opportunities for Parliament to debate the agreement before the Gov? ernment.took any. final decision on its implementation. Consultations on the matter with the private sector would continue. __
