General forecast: The depression should lie to the north-east of East Cape by this morning, with further rain about Gisborne and northern Hawke’s Bay, but it should be mainly fine over the rest of the North Island. Strong, cool southerlies about the east coast gradually moderating. A ridge of high pressure covering the South Island should continue to give fine weather to most of the South Island. However, in coastal areas in the far south, scattered showers are still likely within the strong westerly flow. District forecasts: Canterbury: Mainly fine with

daytime sea breezes along the coast and over the plains, but there may be .areas of cloud or mist in the morning; warm inland in the afternoon.
