The land was originally designed and is currently used as a drain and such a drain is essential In the area. The registered owner of the land has long since abandoned it and accordingly negotiations for further drainage works proposed are impossible. It is consequently essential for the land to be taken. Box 22-095, CHRISTCHURCH.Paparua I Ounty Council CURRENT FIRE RESTRICTIONS IN RURAL AREAS FOR CLARIFICATION to members of the public in doubt the following notice is inserted: Pursuant to the provisions of the Forest and Rural Fires Act. 1977, the lighting of fires in the open in the rural areas of Paparua County is prohibited until further notice, except that provided weather conditions are suitable and there is a 10m strip of ploughed land round the area in which the fire is to be lit, burning is permitted between the hours of 6 p.m. and 9 p.m. If any person wishes to light a fire in the open, other than between 6 p.m. and 9 p.m. as above, then a written permit must be applied for at the Council Office. Written permits are required if a fire is proposed on any part of the Port Hills. No fires of any kind, including barbecues, shall be lit on the plantation lands controlled by the North Canterbury Catchment Board (the area lying between the Waimakariri River and the Old West Coast Road) or the Selwyn Plantation Board. Other barbecues lit in appropriate containers and located in an area served by a domestic water supply will not be considered as fires in the open. At times a complete ban on all fires in the open may be imposed by the Conservator of Forests throughout Canterbury and such bans supercede any restrictions imposed by this-Council or the Selwyn Fire Group.
