ROAD TEST ON CAR RADIOS mSi Sw BE AWA CLARION TEN Much written space is devoted to the performance of cars. To assist the public we conducted tests on car radws. Two NZ made brands, X aod'Y, one Japanese partiaJy assembled in NZ (Oarionland one imported from Japan (Ten). The test route was Christchurch to Christchurch via the Haast Pass. The resets confrmed bench tests. One New Zealand made rad» was impossible bv Springfield and the remammg New Zealand made one received Qretchurch onlv. The "Ctonon" and ''Ten" appeared greatly superior gnnng local and Dunedin and West Coast Statons with ease whie travelling. It was obvious that the 'Ten" and "Clarion" were vastly sioerior. En route Hokitika to Haast it was possible to listen to 3YC and 4YC, while Brand X was good for the West Coast Station only. South of Fox a comprehensive test was carried cut. Brand X was capable of use on two West Coast 20-odd stations was heard on both the "Ten" and "Garon" brands. At Knigtts Point IZB Auckland was clearly received along with many other stations. A later test was made on a trip to the Eglington Valley, with the 'Ten" and "Clarion" giving good reception. The New Zealand made {Brand X), was discarded because it was not just good enough. These radios in most cases cost less than the more tamhar New Zealand made radios.
