Car maker ordered to pay woman
NZPA-Reuter Miami A woman who lost her left hand in a fiery car accident in 1978 has been awarded. JUS2.7 million in damages from the Honda Motor Company. and American Honda Motor Company, Ltd. A jury which heard five days of evidence awarded Diana Rivera, aged 19, $3 million from Honda for negligently designing a 1973 Honda Civic which burst into flames after she ran a red light and collided head-on with another car. The bonnet of her car flew off and smashed the front wiridscreen. allowing petrol to flow into the passenger area.
Jurors reduced the award by 10 per cent because she was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the accident in December, 1978.
