Parun's feat
Onny Parun is once more back in Christchurch with all sorts of national Davis Cup records in his kitbag. He has been in the New Zealand team continuously since 1966. He has played 43 cup singles matches, for 22 wins, 19 losses, and two unfinished contests, and has come close to breaking even in doubles games. The only player dose to Parun’s figures is Brian Fairlie, who played 31 singles in the course of 19 ties. He achieved 13 wins, lost 16, and was twice involved in unfinished matches, as well as regularly partnering Parun in doubles in many campaigns. Two of their predecessors, Lew Gerrard (10 singles wins and 11 losses) and Mark Otway (eight wins and four losses) had the best returns before the Parun-Fairlie combination came alomg. Chris Lewis and Russell Simpson, of the present New Zealand quartet, are gradually building up their cup records. Both men have participated in eight ties, and Lewis has a singles record of seven wins, five Tosses, and one unfinished match. Simpson’s figures are six wins, three losses, one unfinished, and both players have had three wins and three losses in doubles.
