McGinty ready

Special correspondent Auckland Unbeaten two-year-old McGinty made clear his being back in top form for the Eclipse Stakes at Ellerslie on Saturday by the way he galloped at Takanini yesterday. Ridden as usual by Bob Vance, McGinty had a distinct edge on his good stablemate, Romantic Bay, as they competed 1000 metres in 58.85. The two horses tore through the first 400 m and when urged to do a bit more near the finish — he is inclined to loaf in his work — McGinty drew out by the best part of a length. Galloping took place on the inside of the No. 1 grass which, although in good

order, was nowhere near as fast as it can be. The effort of McGinty, which goes for his sixth win on end on Saturday was altogether outstanding. The three members of Ray Verner’s team due to race during the Wellington autumn meeting, made the trip south yesterday. They were Givenchy, Aulyn and Prince Majestic. Also in the party-was the Tucker-trained Triarch. David Peake will ride Givenchy, Aulyn and Triarch on Saturday. Prince Majestic will make his appearance at the meeting On the third day of the meeting, next Saturday week, provided the track is easy or soft.
