It was Wellington’s twentieth win in this top event since its first win at Auckland in 1955. It last won the title in 1978. Innes Tartan, last year’s champion, won the quickstep with 636 points, followed by City of Wellington (627.5), City of Invercargill (625), and City of Dunedin (594). Innes Tartan’s strong quick-
step showing provisionally placed it second over all. slightly ahead of Invercargill, with a big gap back to Dunedin, the Scottish Society of New Zealand, and City of Napier. A big crowd assembled for the street march through the city’s square. Invercargill won with an immaculate display from Wellington and Innes Tartan, while street march winners in the other grades were City of Tauranga. Richmond, and Hawera.
