Man on arson charges

Christchurch detectives have arrested and charged a young man in connection with fires last year af the Methodist Central Mission and the church's Aldersgate Centre in Durham Street. printing premises: and unlawfully taking an $BOOO van on two occasions. He is further charged with wilfully setting fire to the van. Stoves is also charged with wilfully setting fire to the Aldersgate Centre. The duty solicitor (Mr G. D. Horne) sought bail for Stoves, but bail was opposed by the police prosecutor. Sergeant G. G. Cleland. Sergeant Cleland said he had been told that further charges were pending.
