Man falls to death on Egmont
NZPA New Plymouth A New Plymouth man fell to his death on Mount Egmont yesterday. He was Michael Keith Jackson, aged 23. a civil engineer. Mr Jackson and another man. Graeme Pitman, of Stratford, were in a party which climbed to the mountain's summit in the early hours of yesterday morning, the police said. Messrs Jackson and Pitman separated on the descent. The police said that Mr Pitman became aware that Mr Jackson was probably in difficulties and about an hour after the descent began, he found Mr Jackson at the bottom of a valley. Mr Jackson was lifted by helicopter from the valley. 2000 m above-seh level, but was dead,on arrival at Taranaki Base Hospital. He was, 'believed to have been an experienced climber.
