Mene team captain
One of Canterbury’s most seasoned campaigners.’ Mene Mene (Technical), will' captain the men’s section of the Canterbury team for the New Zealand track and field championships at Queen Elizabeth II Park on March. 6 and 7. A former New Zealand decathlon champion. Mene showed that he would be a strong contender for national honours in the shot when he won the Canterbury championship with a distance of 15m yesterday. Bev Paterson (Technical), a double winner in the Canterbury championship sprints, will lead the women and Ton von Biel (Old Boys), who emerged from the provincial championships as a very bright sprint prospect, will captain the junior men. The team, announced yesterday by the selectors. Messrs Valdemars Briedis. Bruce Milne, and Bob Grieve, will be the largest ever entered in a national meeting by the Canterbury centre.
