Record Estuary fleet

Yachting in Canterbury continues to draw recordsized fleets. A total of 188 yachts and crews — 14 more than’ the previous best — sailed in the third heats of the 1981-82 Estuary Pennants series yesterday. The biggest single entry was in the Laser class. Arthur Giffney won by Imin 18s from the closest of his 30 rivals, Nigel Soper, with another Imin to Bruce Cox. The Kennett brothers, David and John, were successful in their respective events. David Kennett became an even more decisive winner of the Starling class when the second placegetter, Mark Milburn, was disqualified for sailing an incorrect course. John Kennett had almost Imin to spare over Tim Chapman in the P class.

There was something of a surprise in the A class catamaran race, with Warren Stone nudging out . Gavin Walter by 12 sec, with another experienced skipper, Chris Hensley, 2min 22s further behind. Craig Keenan,

however, was not extended to gaiin line honours in the Paper Tiger catamaran section.

Another easy victory went to Graeme and Sharon Hore, who won the Sunburst heat by about 3min 30s
