‘Listener’ and programmes

Sir,—l find Mr Muldoon's attack on the ‘Listener,” unwarranted and petty. The magazine is of high standard and its articles are varied and sensible, entertaining and amusing with something for everyone. The daily papers give no details of individual programmes, whereas the “Listener” does just that. The large circulation- of the magazine proves that people want more than the newspapers’ limited columns can give. If the newspapers printed advance programmes in detail, they and either would either have to cut down on the news, or charge more for a bigger paper. — Yours, etc., V. MITCHELL. Brightwater. February 10, 1982. [Newspapers do not have authority to print more than a summary of programmes; If more latitude were permitted, this newspaper would not have to reduce its news content to

supply programme details; nor would it have to charge its readers more for the service. — Editor]
