Overseas judges at horse, pony show
Six overseas judges will officiate at the Canterbury Horse and Pony Breeders’ Show at the Addington Showgrounds today. The show has 667 entries of stallions mares, and progeny. Mrs Ann Franks, of Wantage, England, will judge the Welsh Mountain and Welsh pony breeds. Mr H. Fisher, from Queensland, will judge the thoroughbreds, hacks, and hunters, while Mrs Fisher will judge the Shetlands the Quarter horses, and Appaloosas. Mr P. J. Ponds, of New South Wales, will judge the Arabs and Mr C. Cox and Mrs Cox of Victoria,
will judge the pony breeders section. The show is the biggest of its type in New Zealand and features the greatest variety of breeds. Other breeds being exhibited include hackneys, standardbreds, and Clydesdales. Mrs Franks has come to New Zealand after judging the Welsh sections at the Victoria Royal Show. Mrs Franks and her husband, a veterinarin, will be spending a week in New Zealand. Mr Franks’ veterinary practice includes being veterinarian to a Saudi Arabian sheikh and making weekly flights to check on his horse.
