Lincoln computer courses

In February and again in May Lincoln College’s Kellogg Farm Management Unit will host workshops to introduce farmers to the use of computers on their farms. According to Dr P. L. Nuthall, head of the unit, the workshops will give basic and practical information on computers for the many farmers who have become interested in the subject. There will be sessions on the potential of a computer, planning and record keeping, what to look for in buying

machines and programs, and chances for participants to get practical experience. “The aim will be to give a picture of- what’s possible with these machines and practice in solving problems,” Dr Nuthall says. Farmers will be encouraged to bring information on their farms to the workshops to use on computers that will be available. The first workshop will be on February 16 and 17, with a repeat on May 19 and 20. Numbers will be limited to

about 20 for each. Inquiries should be sent to the Rural Development and Extension Centre, Lincoln College, Canterbury. Another workshop in July will cater for farm consultants. The Kellogg Farm Management Unit was formed 18 months ago to investigate the on-farm potential of computers, and to develop suitable software. It has received funding from the W. K. Kellogg Foundation of the United States of America.
