Loop residents try flat-selling

Buying a home in the Avon Loop may involve meeting the neighbours. The Avon Loop Planning Association (ALPA) Inc., a residents’ group, is acting as developers’ agent for the sale of 10 as yet unbuilt homeownership units in Bangor Street.

A spokesman for the association, Mr Douglas Brown, said that it was the first time, as far as he knew, that a residents’ association had been involved in selling real estate.

Work will begin on the project when ALPA has found buyers for half of the units. They are being advertised for sale in advance at a fixed price, but demand has been sluggish.

ALPA had been well supSrted by the City Council, e Housing Corporation, the Valuation Department, and the architects who designed the housing project, because people saw it as effective urban renewal, he said. The housing project site is opposite a. nine-unit block recently built by the CityCouncil which is upgrading Bangor Street.

The Avon Loop is a neighbourhood improvement area under the Community Housing Improvement Programme (CHIP).

For this reason, first home buyers can apply for additional finance from the Housing Corporation to buy properties in the area.
