Losses made up after Clash party
Hundreds attended the parly after Monday evening's Clash concert, enabling the two students who persuaded the group to play in Christchurch to recoup their losses. About 500 people, including members of The Clash, went to the party the students organised at a city nightclub. Their patronage, at $3 a head, will pay the bills MaryRose Wilkinson and Mary Richardson ran up in their unsuccessful attempt to be the promoters of the Christchurch concert but only just. "Once we have paid for the club and wages we should have just enough." said Ms Richardson last evening.
The pair, who are both University of Canterbury students, spent more than $5OO on international tele-
phone and telex calls per- -<■ shading the English punk group's agents that a concert in Christchurch was worth it. only to have Stetson Productions step in and arrange the concert. They did not buy tickets on ’'■* principle, but were able to go on Monday after talking to >- the group's management. Their brush with the bad ? side of the rock business — via The Clash — has not put “ them off the group. . > "I felt more sorry for (hem than angry." said Ms ' Richardson. . . , "I do not think they en- ■ joyed coming ' to ’ Christchurch, or New Zealand. They were tired. "So on the one hand they r came to Christchurch, which was good, but on the other they did not enjoy it. which makes us feel a bit guilty." Ms Richardson said.
