Skilled Poles ‘welcome’
PA Wellington The Chambers of Commerce would welcome more skilled Polish workers coming to New Zealand. In a statement issued after talks yesterday with the Minister ' of Immigration (Mr Malcolm) the president of /the Chambers of Commerce < (Mr Allan Williams) said that /he. together with the vicepresident (Mr Alan Abel), -and executive director (Mr ' Ross Martin) had discussed ’aspects of the Government's / immigration policy with the Minister. They were impressed by the way Polish refugees had "apparently settled into the workforce." and hoped that it would- be . possible for the •Government to bring further skilled Polish workers into New Zealand. Mr Williams said. that he
and his colleagues had told tiie Minister that the entrepreneur immigration policy should be mure widely publicised. This policy was not well known. Il had the potential to bring to New Zealand migrant's who had the investment capital'and-skills New Zealand needed.
"In our opinion every businessman travelling overseas, every embassy in New Zealand. and every travel office should know of this policy and be prepared to encourage prospective, migrants to New Zealand." he said. - -■.'/•
"We are a young country, which was founded by ent'rhpeheur immigrants in the nineteenth centurv. A resur-
gence of this type of immigration can drily be of benefit to New Zealand."
