Addington market Prime stock prices firm

Prices for all types of prime stock remained firm on last week's rates at the Addington market yesterday. Good quality prime lambs were in keen demand and sold to $29. Hoggets sold to $26.30 and the best of the old ewes made $12.50. The prime cattle section contained manv heavy .steers in very good condition and several sales were made in excess of $5OO. Some of the heifers offered were in light condition. Prime lambs The market for prime lambs was similar to last week with most lambs selling between $22 anti $2B. The qualitv of lambs available was very good considering the drv cond'itions and lack of feed . available on Canterbury farms. The total yarding of prime lambs was 9<6 compared with 717 last week. Prime cattle were slightly harder to sell because of an increased yarding, but values remained about the same as last week. The yarding of 453 was 129 more than last week. The over-all quality of the market was mixed. A large number of steers in good condition. some very heavy, were offered, but many of the lighter heifers were showing effects of

the drought. Cows again met a strong demand. The top price was $612 for a Simmental cross steer sold by Fear and Gilchrist (Swannanoa). J. R. and R. A. Johnson (Ohoka) sold a Friesian heifer for $398 and A. R. Jones (Halswell) sold a Friesian cow for $364.

Steers and heifers to 220 kg ' sold for between 148 c and 153 c a i kilogram, between 220 kg and ■ 270 kg. from 151 c to 156 c. and over 270 kg to 163 c. Values were: Prime heavy steers, to $612.
