Property market

A modernised weatherboard house occupying a 32155 q m section on the Summit Road at the corner of Worsleys road was sold at auction on Wednesday for $64,250—we1l in excess of the reserve.

The property, which straddles Heathcote and Paparua counties, has a combined GV (1979) of $24,500. The house, which is in good order, has a spacious lounge, a modern kitchen with adjoining dining-room and three bedrooms. The property also includes a double garage and a Separate studio with darkroom facilities.

Situated south of the Sign of the Kiwi, it commands a

view of the full length of Lyttelton Harbour and over the plains to the mountains in the west.

The auctioneer, Mr Robert Brown, said that interest in the property was widespread and attendance at the sale was excellent. He described the bidding as "spirited.”

The 1200 sq m weatherboard house at 36 Hereford Street which formerly served as the North Canterbury Hospital Board's administration building, was passed in at auction last Friday. The house, which has more than 50 rooms, attracted no bid but the acutioneer (Mr C. Robertson of Sherris and

Robertson) said that it was not expected to. It was offered for auction because it belonged to a local body and the sale had to be seen to be done properly, he said. The building is subject to approval from the council for a specialised use and negotiations are underway with the person who will probably proceed, he said. The ' prospective buyer hopes to establish a lower cost hotel in the building, Mr Robertson said. Built in 1903 with some later extensions, the building is well-maintained with excellent interior decoration, central heating, and carpet throughtout. The Peaks, a North Canterbury small holding of

18.21 ha, was sold at auction for $71,000 on Wednesday. The property is fenced into six paddocks and contains a 15-year-old weatherboard dwelling with one bedroom. It has a GV (1979) of $30,000 and'is held on lease-in-perpetuity tenure. The auctioneer, Mr D. J. Selby, of Farmers’ Real Estate, said that about 40 people attended the auction and that the bidding was reasonably brisk. Number 68 Straven Road, Fendalton — a large, modern family home with a heated swimming pool on a 1432 sq m rear section — was passed in at auction on February 29 at $200,000. The house, which has five bedrooms (en suite off the master bedroom), a study, a games room and a sun room, has a G.V. of $lOO,OOO.

The auctioneer, Mr A. W. McClelland, of M. B. Cook in conjunction with Jolliffe’s Real Estate, said that the auction was very well attended, but that most of those present had lost their voices.

Negotiations for sale are under way, he said.
