Submissions to tribunal
Sir—Your readers will be aware that the Planning Tribunal has been sitting this
week to hear an application from G.U.S. Properties, Ltd, to develop more properties for public carparks at Merivale as well as objections to this proposal from the City Council and quite a number of individuals. As an observer at the hearings, I wish to record my appreciation of the contributions made by residents of Merivale deeply concerned to save this suburb from further encroachment by big commercial enterprises. The time and care they had devoted to preparing submissions and their able, sincere presentation of their evidence should go far towards saving homes in an area now very much at risk. May I mention specially the chairman and committee of the Merivale Precinct Society, who have made such valuable efforts on behalf of their neighbourhood. They deserve strong support, including increased financial membership, from the Merivale community. — Yours, etc.,
V. F. JOBBERNS. February 4, 1982.
