Poland

Sir,—“Frenzied hatred for the Soviet Union” (M. Creel. February 1), what an all-em-bracing claim. I have found hatred to be an unsatisfactory emotion like jealousy since while I am hating I am hurling but the object of my hatred is not suffering at all. It also clouds my logical thought process and would expose me to becoming a fanatic. I do have a dislike of totalitarianism in any shape or form and I feel a compassion for those who endure it. That dislike, I think, would turn to hatred if some tried to impose it on me. My compassion covers people who live in South Africa, Russia, Chile, Afghanistan, Dominica, Poland, etc., etc., and I hope that their societies can find a way to true democracy. — Yours, etc.,

D. G. SANDERS, sen. February 1, 1982.
