Soviet fleet contract

rA rseison The Nelson engineering company, Anchor-Dorman, Ltd, has won a new contract worth about 52 million to service the big Soviet fishing fleet working New Zealand waters.

"They also want us to service vessels other than the joint venture and licenced fishing boats — possibly ships from their Antarctic programmes," said Anchor-Dorman’s general manager, Mr Bill Butters, yesterday. Mr Butters, who returned to his Nelson office vester-

day after five days negotiating in Moscow with the Soviet fleet operators, Sovrybflot. said the new contract was valid until December 31.

“The talks were very satisfactory in that they ended months of rumour and speculation that the contract might go to another company,” he said. Last year’s contract was worth 51-6 million to the Nelson company. “With the larger ships they're using now and inflation we would expect to exceed that figure this year.” Mr Butters said.
