Missing boy presumed drowned
PA Tauranga Divers failed to find any trace of a missing boy when they searched the area around Moturiki Island on the east side of Mount Maunganui Peninsula on Sunday. Aaron John Hutana, aged 13, was presumed to have drowned on February 2 after being swept off the rocks at the blowhole near the island, connected by a short causeway to Ocean Beach. Heavy swells and poor visibility prevented divers searching the area until Sunday.
More underwater sweeps near the island were made by divers yesterday.
