Rail viaduct to be sold
PA Wellington The Railways Department is selling the Mangaweka rail viaduct, but buyers must demolish it and remove the steel for disposal.
The viaduct, 288 metres long and 46 metres high, crosses the main highway a kilometre north of Mangaweka. A Railways spokesman said that he had not heard any serious suggestions the viaduct should be maintained after rail traffic was diverted on to the new Mangaweka deviation in November. Tenders close later this month.
