Better prices for prime cattle

Prime cattle prices firmed at the Addington market yesterday, partly because of a smaller yarding. Good quality stock was in keen demand, particularly heavyweight steers and cows. Prices for prime lambs eased slightly compared with last week and prime hoggets remained at about the same level. Prime old ewes had a good sale. Prime lambs Values for prime lambs were a shade easier than last week. This was attributed to the quality of stock offered not being quite up tq the standard of last week. The bulk of prime lambs sold between $23 and $2B. The top price was $3O. The total yarding of prime lambs was 717 compared with 598 last week. Values were:Heavy lambs, to $3O. The over-all quality of the prime cattle market was described as very good. An Angus steer from N. A. Reid (Motunau) made the top price of $532. A Friesian cow from D. A. Gebbie (Teddington) was sold for $402 and a heifer from P. Schrinck (Oxford) made $398.

The yarding of 324 was 148 fewer than last week.

Fat pigs A much larger yarding of fat pigs was offered compared with last week. With strong competition from retail buyers all types of pigs sold well.
