Day of courage for Australia
NZPA Adelaide The third cricket test between Australia and the West Indies at J Adelaide Oval is alight. Australia, on 341 for four in its i second innings goes into the final day today with a lead of 190 with six wickets in hand. ! Australia leads in the threei game series, 1-0, and a draw or a I victory would give it the Sir I Frank Worrell trophy at present i held by the West Indies. 1 Trailing by 151 runs on the i first innings, Australia yesterday ’ scored 241 runs for the loss of 1 only two wickets.
It was a day of courage for the Australians. Allan Border scored a magnificent 126, and with Bruce Laird (78) lifted the score from 35 for two to 201 in a stand of 166. Border hit his ninth test century and his first against the 1 West Indies. When Laird was out the gallant little left-hander battled and added a further 66 runs with Kim Hughes for the fourth wicket. Hughes, handicapped by injuries to both feet, used John Dyson as a runner and although restricted to playing almost ex- . clusively from the crease scored a superb 72 not out.
