Release ordered
An order for the immediate release of a woman committed to the care of the Salvation Army under the Alcohol and Drug Addiction Act, was made by Mr-Justice Roper in the High Court yesterday afternoon. His Honour also made an order prohibiting publication of her name or anything which might tend to lead to her identification. The woman, represented by Messrs R. E. and E. D. Wylie, had sought a writ of
habeas corpus, an order seeking the release of a person committed under a court order. The order for committal under the Alcohol and Drug Addiction Act was made by Judge Paterson in the District Court after an application by the woman’s father. Mr R. E. Wylie submitted that there was a failure by the District Court to comply with certain procedural matters under the act and that there was a breach of natural justice.
