General forecast: A cool, southerly airstream should flow over the North Island and the north of the South Island between the depression and the ridge. Over the South Island, generally fine weather can be expected except for isolated showers about the coast from Doubtful Sound to Dunedin and drizzle about the Marlborough and North Canterbury coasts.

District forecasts: Canterbury: Light, variable winds tending southerly about the coast by 'morning; some low cloud and drizzle in North Canterbury, otherwise mainly fine. Marlborough: Strong, cool southerly winds about the coast with areas of light rain or drizzle. Lighter winds inland, mainly fine. Nelson, Buller, and Westland: Fine.
