Beaumont ‘will return’

NZPA London Bill Beaumont intends to be back in the England scrum later this month after being forced to withdraw from Saturday’s rugby international against Ireland, at Twickenham. Beaumont will be missing from the England team for the first time in 34 internationals, his unbroken run having stretched back to the first test against Australia at Sydney in May, 1975.

The decision to, withdraw from the game was takenafter a neurologist advised Beaumont to have a week out after suffering a blow to the back of the neck in last Saturday’s county championship final. The cautious Beaumont, aged 29, who has led England a record 21 times, asked the doctors about his long term future and was told there were no problems about coming back after a suitable rest.
