TV programmes

Sir,—l would like to support B. Cresswell’s protest against this summer’s television programmes. On one evening recently out of eight programmes six were repeats, and some of the programmes are so poor. Why can we not have some good dramas such as perhaps “My Father Knew Lloyd George,” or interesting documentaries. There would appear to be some sort of pressure put on B.C.N.Z. to purchase third-rate American programmes. Most of these are extremely noisy, deal with murder, rape, or some other type of case. In these dismal times when we are all under some sort of stress because of the state of this country, a bright, happy story would at least take us out of ourselves for a while. It is particularly noticeable that. on Saturday

nights these noisy, crime-filled programmes abound.—Yours, etc I. H. THOMAS. January 27, 1982.
