$30,000 top price at Waikato yearling sale

PA • Hamilton Colts by Silver' Dream and Bellissimo shared the top price of $30,000 at the Wrightson Bloodstock yearling sale at Claudelands yesterday.

$30,000 was the highest price recorded over the three days of the sale,‘Which concluded last evening. Yesterday’s session produced the best result of the sale, with the total of $907,800 well up on the two previous days' aggregates. However, continuing the trend which has been evident since the Waikato yearling sales began last week, the session was down on the figures recorded for the corresponding day last year. Passings yesterday were still frequent but selling during the session maintained a steadier pace. Selling had slowed badly midway through proceedings on the previous days but this trend was not evident yesterday. Australians and, to a lesser degree. Malaysians played an active part in buying with just over 100 of those offered going to Australian interests and about 35 to Malaysians. A number of those will remain in New Zealand at least for the early part of their racing careers. A son of the top-class racemare, Free Gold, by the Te Rapa Stud sire Bellissimo. went to the bid of Queensland trainer, George McLeod, for $30,000. Offered on account of Mr R. Vincent, of Matamata, the attractive bay colt is Free Gold's third foal.

By Gold Sovereign from the Rawalpindi II mare, Jan Eyre, Free Gold included among her nine wins the Stretlo Stakes, Royal Stakes, Slimmer Cup and Lady Norrie Stakes. She also claims close ties to such good performers as the Melbourne Cup winner Silver Knight, Lone Hand and Calypso. Mapperley Stud, Matamata, was paid $30,000 for the powerfully built dark brown colt by Silver Dream offered on behalf of Mr Nelson Schick, proprietor of the

Windsor Park Stud, Cambridge. ; From the lightly raced Maree Lomond, the colt is a half-brother to two winners and from the winning Volifox family, which has been selling sb well during the last week.

Colts by Diplomatic Agent. Otehi Bay and Zamazaan fetched $15,000 a piece. Mr J. Meagher, of Melbourne. was the successful bidder on the colt by Diplomatic Agent from the winning Messmate mare. Lady Messmate, offered by Mrs B. Thorne, of Hastings. The Sovereign Lodge, Ohau, was the vendor of the well grown Otehi Bay colt

which went to the bid of WYightson Bloodstock, Palmerston North. ?. for $15,000.

The Singapore trainer. Ivan Allen, who purchased several of the top priced lots during the three days, outlaid $15,000 for the Zamazaan — Miss Catricia colt offered on account of Maranui Farm, Wanganui.

Of the 203 lots offered yesterday 152 were sold. This brought an average of $5972. compared with $6254 for the final day last year.

The final total is expected to be boosted by the sale, during the next few days, of several of those passed in while in the ring.
