Prices up for store lambs
Store lambs had an excellent sale at the Addington market yesterday. Lambs of good to average quality improved in price by about $1 on last week’s rates, but pens of top drafts were frequently up more than $l.
The quality of stock offered was described as very good with some particularly good lines of Rpmney lambs available. Buyers "showed a preference for well-grown, woolly lambs such as Romneys and Perendales.
A feature of the market was the sale of 1902 mixed-sex South Suffolk lambs from Waiau, which fetched from $14.60 to $21.20.
The top price of the day was $22.80, paid for Corriedale ewe lambs from Culverden. A line of 1205 well-grown Romney wether lambs from Kaikoura sold for $15.80 to $20.10. Perendales sold to $16.60, Down-cross lambs to $18.20 and a pen of BorderCorriedales sold at $18.40.
The yarding of 12.416 was nearly 2000 more than last week.
Some of the better quality adult sheep looked good buying. Two lines, of well covered annual draft ewes sold between $13.10 and $13.50 but others were below $lO. r
Over all the quality of the sheep offered was slightly better than last week. The total yarding of adult sheep was 5352 compared with 2206 last week.
