Moreno to lose points
PA Auckland Roberto Moreno, the young Brazilian who has threatened to run away with this year’s international ’motor-racing series, has had his lead in the series cut. Points posted after the third round of the Aurora AFX-spon-sored Formula Pacific championship at Manfield, near Palmerston North, gave Moreno a five-point lead over the Auckland driver. Steve Millen. However, with only a few days to go before the final round of the championship at Wigram, Motorsport Association of New
Zealand officials have stepped in and overruled the points allocation made at Manfield. On their interpretation of the rules governing the series, they have decided that only drivers who finished both races of the third round will get championship points. Although M.A.N.Z. will not make an official announcement until later today, it seems certain that Moreno, who proved his superiority over local drivers when he made no race of the first 27-lap event, will be stripped of the points he was awarded at Manfield.
