Beat Rhythm Fashion (pictured), from Wellington, are, from left, Daniel Birch (bass), Nino Birch (guitar) and Peter Kaio (drums). The band are appearing at the Gladstone Hotel this weekend. Through two singles, “Beings Rest Finally” and “Turn of the Century,” the band

achieved plenty of critical acclaim in their home city, and created some interest in other parts of the country. The trio are at pains to avoid the “Cure” tag that they were labelled with after their first record. Kaio joined the band only last month, as the previous drummer left just after the

singles were recorded. The Birch brothers were recently described in a “Rolling Stone” article as being “downright arrogant,” but they say that it is not important for fans to worry about the personalities of the musicians — "it's irrelevant.” Several of their songs have

been put on two Wellington compilation albums which were rarely heard outside that City. Beat Rhythm Fashion started playing live in April last year. Two Christchurch bands will support Beat Rhythm Fashion at the Gladstone — Drowning Is Easy (Friday) and Mainly Spaniards (Saturday).
